The Ahbab Festival - Cambridge Junction - 9th & 10th February
The Ahbab festival is an celebration of Arabic music and film. Spread over two days, the Cambridge Junction are holding a workshop on Friday the 9th February which will examine the difference in scales between Western and Arabic music. On the evening of the 9th February, trio SAWA will be performing a live show of Arabic folk music interwoven with jazz and innovative fusion.
On the Saturday, the Junction will be showing the film ‘In Between’ which follows the lives of three strong, independent minded Palestinian-Israeli women in Tel Aviv. Away from the constraints of their families and enforced tradition, they find themselves ‘in between’ the free and unfettered lives they aspire to lead and the restrictions imposed on them by a blinkered society.
The festival culminates with Natacha Atlas and her five piece band as they perform material from her album ‘Myriad Road’ and preview tracks from her forthcoming album to be released in Autumn 2018. Natacha Atlas is a captivating and hypnotic singer from North Africa, who entwines tribal beats with blusey cool Afro-fun.

Assassins - ADC Theatre - 13th - 17th February
A darkly humorous blend of fiction and history, conspiracy and truth, Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins depicts the disturbing lives of the nine individuals who have attempted to or successfully assassinated American Presidents.
Feeling betrayed by the broken promises of their ideal nation, they decide to strike out against its ultimate symbol: the President. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, the rules of time and place are bent as these disillusioned misfits meet, interact and inspire each other to harrowing acts in the name of the ‘American Dream’.
This funny yet unnerving ‘revusical’ combines lyrical ingenuity with multiple musical styles to explore the perverse motivations and characters behind these history-defining acts.
